Explore the Roseland

Discover beautiful fishing villages, golden beaches, hidden creeks, sub-tropical gardens, fascinating history, and miles of unspoilt coast path. The Roseland Peninsula is without doubt one of Cornwall’s best kept secrets. We love nothing more than exploring our beautiful home, and we can’t wait to share it with you.

St Mawes

It’s a 10 minute walk from the B&B to the quayside in St Mawes. With its clear turquoise water, lush tropical planting, and cute pastel cottages, you could be in the Mediterranean. Have a browse in the shops and galleries. Relax with coffee on a waterfront terrace, or ice cream on 1 of the 4 village beaches. And sample some of Cornwall’s finest dining in award winning restaurants.

Walks

There are miles of wonderful walks right from our door. One of our favourites is the St Anthony Head loop which starts and ends with a tiny foot ferry from the harbour. We have maps and walking books available to borrow at the B&B, and we would be delighted to make recommendations. Don’t forget your swimming things for a refreshing dip on secluded beaches.

Beaches

What is Cornwall without its paradise beaches? By its nature, the Roseland Peninsula is surrounded by water, and endless beautiful beaches. Sandy, shingly, rocky, we’ve got them all. We’re on a mission to visit them all (still on-going!), so ask us for tips of secret beaches you may be lucky enough to have to yourself.

On the Water

Explore the Fal River by boat. Take a ferry to Falmouth. Speed up river on a boat cruise. Charter your own motor boat. Go on a fishing trip with local fisherman James Brown. Enjoy a slower pace of life by kayak or stand-up paddle board. Or just watch the world sail by from terra firma.

Gardens

We are spoilt with gorgeous gardens, from the Italianate inspired Lamorran Gardens next door, and the sub-tropical church gardens of nearby St Just in Roseland Church, to impressive National Trust Trelissick, and the magical Lost Gardens of Heligan. If you’re happy to go further afield, we love Trebah Garden on the Helford River.

History

Visit local landmarks to unearth fascinating history, including Henry VIII’s St Mawes Castle, and the banks of the Fal Estuary which were the launch point for thousands of American troops destined for Omaha Beach in the D-Day landings.
